Many surgical diseases can be treated only by extirpation of the organ or a part thereof; correction of pathophysiological process is not possible. Even here, consideration of pathological aspects of the disorder proves useful. One, it enables the surgeon to understand the mechanism of production of symptoms and signs of the disorder. Second and more important, it enables the surgeon to understand physiological derangements that may result from surgery. This knowledge would help the surgeon in long-term postoperative management of the patient. Perusal of this book is expected to result in clearer thinking and sound clinical care of the surgical patients. Dr Ramesh Kumar Marya, PhD has many decades of experience teaching physiology to not only undergraduates but also postgraduate students of physiology, internal medicine, surgery and Obstetrics. He has over 80 international publications. He has already authored six books including Medical Physiology,and History of Medicine.
