Spectroscopy Based Infrared Sensor System for Investigation of Cells in Microfluidic Channels is a doctoral thesis that focuses on measurement of lipid membrane of living cells inside microfluidic channel. The research was organized around three main objectives, including: fabrication of the sensor system; resolving the high optical absorption contribution of H2O; and application of the sensor in cell analysis. The sensor measures the optical absorption spectrum of a sample in the range of lipid molecule absorption features. Using D2O-based medium resolved high absorption contribution of H2O-based medium in the range of lipid molecule optical absorption. Implementing analytical methods, such as spectral deconvolution, allowed discrimination of cells based on their absorbance features. In addition, the method can detect subsequent changes of the plasma membrane because of physical and chemical stimuli.
The sensor platform introduces a simple and accurate IR measurement system in living cell analysis, with a potential perspective for high throughput applications.
