The book provides insights into the socio-cultural factors which shaped the lives of urban Indian women within a particular temporal space. It explores the portrayals of conflict, active and present in mother-daughter relationships, in the fiction of selected Indian women authors writing in English within the last decade of the twentieth century using critical analytical tools of Postcolonial literary theory and Feminist psychoanalysis.

Dr. Reshmi Lahiri-Roy has a PhD in English, M.A.Hons.(Feminist Studies) from University of Canterbury; M.A English, B.A. (Hons), English from University of Bombay and a Diploma in Journalism. She teaches within the NZ South Asia Centre, University of Canterbury and has published her academic work with international journals.
