La América tras la gran depresión tenía una necesidad desesperada por crear una iconografía que pudiera sacarla de la triste realidad en blanco y negro, una iconografía que llegó de la mano de las fantasías en Technicolor del sueño americano creado por Gil Elvgren. Su técnica -que le valió una reputación como el "Norman Rockwell de las pin-ups"- mezclaba fotografías de modelos que después pintaba creando una espléndida hiper-realidad, con largas piernas, un pelo exuberante y pechos que desafían a la gravedad, convirtiéndolas así en el perfecto estímulo moral y alegrando la vista de todo recluta con añoranza.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Charles G. Martignette fue un marchante de arte y coleccionista de pinturas originales de ilustradores y artistas norteamericanos del siglo XX. Su galería en Hallandale Beach, Florida, alberga la colección más grande del mundo de ilustraciones artísticas comerciales. Desde 1975 publicó numerosos artículos sobre revistas, publicidad, calendarios, ediciones pulp y en rústica y arte glam y de pin-ups. Pinturas de su colección han sido exhibidas en el Instituto Smithsoniano, así como en muchos otros museos estadounidenses y europeos. Charles G. Martignette murió en 2008 en Hallandale, Florida. Louis K. Meisel, dueño y director de una de las galerías más antiguas del Soho en Nueva York, ha publicado diversos libros y artículos sobre arte contemporáneo. Además de arte, colecciona obras de pin-ups.
