In the last decades, progress in the field of pre-service and in-service teacher education has been evident. Despite the developments of curriculum programs, models and designs, various challenges are shaping the field. Models of teacher education are usually presented as “research-basedâ€, but related research is often invisible or fragmented. The “support for teachers†and the “improvement of instruction†are only loosely coupled and their interdependence is not highlighted. These challenges were the impetus to initiate this publication. Individual approaches, models or designs of pre-service and in-service teacher education developed by the authors (action research, video clubs, lesson studies, and others) are introduced and their impact and shortcomings for further development are specified. In the concluding chapter, a reflective discussion across individual approaches to reveal particular issues that are shaping the field is provided. Practitioners as well as researchers in the field of teacher education can benefit from this book.

Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

Tomáš Janík ist assoziierter Professor für Erziehungswissenschaft und Leiter des Forschungsinstitutes für Schulbildung an der Pädagogischen Fakultät der Masaryk Universität in Brno. Er ist Vorsitzender der Arbeitsgruppe für Fachdidaktik der Akkreditierungskommission. Seit 2015 ist er als Berater der Ministerin für Schulwesen, Jugend und Sport tätig.

Dalehefte, Inger Marie is an associate professor and head of the Department of Education at the University of Agder in Kristiansand/Grimstad (Norway). Her previous work at the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) in Kiel (Germany) mainly considers research from the ‘IPN Video Study’ in physics instruction and the professional teacher development programme ‘SINUS for Primary School’ with a focus on mathematics and science. At present, her research interest addresses the school development programme ‘School-In’ at the University of Agder. With a particular passion for video as a tool for improving instruction and reflection, her main research focuses are improving instruction, professional development, and assessment and evaluation within the field of education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stefan Zehetmeier: Assoziierter Universitätsprofessor am Institut für Unterrichts- und Schulentwicklung an der Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. Arbeits-/Forschungsschwerpunkte: Lehrerinnen- und Lehrerbildung, Professionalitätsentwicklung von Lehrkräften, Qualitätssicherung und Evaluation im Bildungsbereich, Aktionsforschung, Wirkungsanalysen von Lehrerinnen- und Lehrerfortbildung.

Kerstin Bäuerlein, Dipl.-Psych. Dr., wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin, Institut Sekundarstufe I und II, Pädagogische Hochschule FHNW. Arbeits- und Forschungsschwerpunkte: Kooperation PH–Schule, Messung unterrichtlicher Kompetenzen, Qualitätsmanagement für das Institut Sekundarstufe I und II.

Urban Fraefel, Prof. lic. phil., Leitung Berufspraktische Studien Sekundarstufe I, Pädagogische Hochschule FHNW.
