Their contribution established a permanent display of African art within the museum, highlighting a significant commitment to this field amidst the institution's ongoing expansion.The Wurtzburger gift reinforced a trajectory initiated by the museum's exhibition programme, beginning with the 1936 exhibition, African Negro Art, and followed by An Exhibition of African Art in 1946, noted for showcasing African art from American collections. Prior to the Wurtzburger's donation, significant contributions included ancient Egyptian and Coptic pieces from Florence Levy and Blanche Adler, alongside numerous gifts from collectors like Saidie A.
