The circulation among the production and consumption of products that is accelerated by marketing and advertising measures and has defined our society for decades has also seized urban architecture. The resulting profusion is problematical from an economical as well as an ecological point of view. The destruction of buildings that are not really obsolete is as questionable as the creation of extravagant structures for which there is no other specific need. The essays assembled in this book were written beginning in the mid-nineties as appeals against the exalted globalization of the city and its dissolution into faceless and inhospitable peripheries. It does not present the opinions of a levelheaded architectural critic but suggestions by an architect, urbanite, and city lover who takes a bold stance.
