Inhaltsangabe

Few topics have received as much attention in information systems research and practice in recent years as digital transformation. To survive - let alone profit from - this radical change, companies must purposefully govern the digital transformation process. While the field of research on digital transformation has matured in the last years and now covers a broad range of relevant aspects and topics, the realization of organizational digital transformation in the form of projects has not received sufficient attention. Thus, this dissertation examines digital transformation projects as pivotal vehicles to realize said transformation. Building upon five individual research projects, this dissertation explores the specific characteristics and objectives associated with digital transformation projects, investigates the embedding of digital transformation projects in an organizational context, and contributes to the development and advancement of methods for the management of digital transformation projects. Besides the theoretical contributions, this dissertation also offers several practical implications, especially relevant for management roles that are tasked with coordinating a company’s digital transformation efforts, such as Chief Digital Officers, but also managers of digital innovation units and project managers.
