This introductory textbook covers the traditional business school subject of financial accounting. Major target group are first-semester Bachelor and Master degree students in Europe and particularly in Germany who study business or management in English. In eleven chapters, the essential concepts of financial reporting are highlighted. With reference to legal regulation and the international rulesets of IFRS and US-GAAP, major requirements of financial reporting are covered. There are examples and there is reference to the business world to better understand the context of financial accounting and the purpose it serves. Each chapter is followed by exercises and the respective solutions.

Volker Rundshagen is Lecturer for International Business at Cologne Business School (CBS), where he has been teaching in particular accounting and tourism-related courses. Following an earlier career in tourism, including the completion of a Master of Arts in Tourism Management at the University of Brighton in 2001, he joined CBS in 2006, transferring his business and tourism industry experience into the field of higher education. In 2007, following part-time studies, he received his MBA from the University of Louisville. Currently, Volker Rundshagen is about to complete his doctoral degree in Higher Education Management at the University of Bath. His research interests focus on the sociology of business schools and responsible business and tourism education development.
