Transportation infrastructures-including bridges, tunnels, roads, and underground pipelines-play a vital role in human daily life and social activities. However, due to technological limitations, management deficiencies, and adverse environmental factors, the safety and serviceability of these structures face increasing challenges throughout their lifecycle, which may lead to serious casualties and economic losses. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish effective intelligent construction and operation systems for transportation infrastructures. Fortunately, with the rapid development of the Internet of Things, big data, artificial intelligence, and advanced sensing technologies, more intelligent solutions have been applied to infrastructure construction, condition perception, and maintenance. This reprint contains twenty papers covering new developments in the intelligent construction and operation of transportation infrastructures. The studies focus on bridges, tunnels, and underground facilities, and address key areas such as intelligent construction optimization, non-destructive sensing (e.g., self-magnetic flux leakage, UAV-based crack detection), operational performance assessment (e.g., seismic response, live load effects), and data-driven technologies (e.g., deep learning, digital twins, large language models). Collectively, these papers provide novel methods and practical applications that significantly advance the design, construction, assessment, and intelligent management of transportation infrastructures.
