With over five million people in South Africa and over a quarter of Swaziland's population living with HIV, the need for analysis of the situation in Southern Africa is as great as ever. This book aims to address the pandemic of HIV and AIDS by analysing the situation using constructivist methodology. It analyses the main issues affecting our ability to combat the virus, including intellectual property rights, the international pharmaceutical industry and access to health care. It takes a deep look at hetronormality, sexual identity and misinformation, as well as the political context in states including South Africa. It concludes by seeing if institutional change can alleviate behaviour that encourages the spread of HIV, or if other avenues must be explored to make a difference in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
