In operation and planning of power systems, operators need to make decision with respect to different objectives. Hence, several tools have been developed to assist the operators. Optimal power flow (OPF) is one of them to assist the operators in running the system optimally under specific constraints, through presenting number of efficient and reliable optimization approaches to solve the optimal power flow (OPF) problem. The approaches employ Linear Programming Method (LPM), Interior Point Algorithm (IPA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO).

Dr. Firas received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, the M.Sc. degree in power and electrical machines and Ph.D. from the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, Baghdad, in 1997, 2002 and 2006, respectively.His current research interests include power system stability, dynamics, power control, reactive power control & reliability.
