Induction motors are the workhorses of industry because of their roughness and versatility. The use of induction motors in industry is widespread and it can be exposed to different operational environments, manufacturing defects, etc. The present work emphases on the development of a low cost 8051 core microcontroller based system that will monitor the electrical parameter like input voltage, input current and power factor of the line. During any abnormality the developed system will act to ensure the protection of the motor with various fault mitigation algorithms.

Dr. Das Sharma received his Ph.D. degree from Jadavpur University, India. Presently he is an Assistant Professor at Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta, India. His research interests include embedded systems, controller design etc. He has authored about 30 technical papers. He is member of IEEE (USA), IET (UK).
