By using the theory of communication accommodation and conducting interviews with modified individuals through the critical incident technique, this research strives to understand why people want to modify their bodies, the impacts their modifications have had on their life, and how social interactions with others have changed since modifying their bodies.

In 2013, Julianne graduated with her Masters in Communication Studies from the University of Wyoming. Currently, she is an eCommerce Marketing Specialist for F+W, a content and eCommerce company. She plans to continue researching how body modification is changing the way we perceive and communicate with others.
