The Ministry of Health (MoH), Government of Pakistan in financial assistance from Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and technical as well as management assistance from Micro Nutrients Initiative (M I) is going to embark upon a new initiative "National Wheat Flour Fortification Program (NWFFP)". The program aims at improving health status of the nation through minimizing the effects of iron deficiency in children and women. The introductory experiences of fortified flour in various countries present a number of potentials of reducing neural tube disorders in new born (NTDs), low birth weight babies, lowering remarkable mortality rate, child morbidity and improved body growth. There is thus need to develop, sustain and communicate to the stake holders, service deliverers, local leadership, and general public ---clearly and consistently-the efforts and policy directions, NWFFP initiative, availability of the product to the beneficiaries in relation to win political commitment, social acceptability and market support.
