This book is written primarily as an introductory comprehensive treatise covering the basic aspects of the seismic-exploration techniques. Presentation of the subject matter is started with the basic theoretical background followed by the field acquisition techniques, data processing, and interpretation. The book consists of twelve chapters. The first four chapters cover the theoretical aspect of the subject including basic principles of the seismic wave-field generation, propagation, and detection. The following two chapters are devoted to the two main tools applied in seismic exploration, namely, the 2D and 3D surveying techniques. Data processing is covered in the following four chapters; the seismic signal, processing tools, the standard processing sequence, and seismic migration. The book is concluded by the interpretation chapter, which discusses both of the structural and the stratigraphic techniques of interpretation. The text is presented in clear and simple language, aided by numerous illustration figures. The book-layout is designed to serve as a teaching manual for university students and staff members of seismic exploration companies.
