Inhaltsangabe

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicon L.) is an important member of family Solanaceae. It is native to America where its indigenous name was tomati. From Maxico tomato was taken to Europe and then to Asia. The name tomato comes from the nahual language of Maxico.Present research project was carried out in Plant Tissue Culture Cell, Institute of Horticultural Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Different explants were cultured on MS media containing various levels of 2, 4-D, NAA, BAP, Kinetin and combinations of NAA & BAP. The findings of this research are summarized as under. Maximum seed germination (93.75 %) was observed in both SAM F1 and Munhen cultivars of Tomato on MS medium. Micropropagation increased with increase in time span, 95.83% and 90.97% cultures of SAM F1 and Munhen, respectively, showed regeneration in to complete plantlets in 10 – 25 days. Only anthers from Sahil cultivar of tomato respond for callus induction on different levels of BAP (2 – 4 mgL-1) after exposure to cold shock for 72 – 96 hours under both light and dark culture conditions. There was significant difference obtained for callus induction under light and dark culture conditions.
