This monograph focuses on the development of a parameter identification technique for layered systems on the basis of the spectral element method. Forward and inverse models are introduced. The forward model involves the simulation of wave propagation in elastic, viscoelastic, porous and non- homogeneous media. The inverse model involves the utilization of three minimization techniques; Factored secant update, Levenberg-Marquardt and Powell hybrid.
