The need to ensure that people are technologicallyliterate has become an issue of major significancewith an ever increasingly technological world. Inorder to more clearly understand the variousdimensions of technological literacy, this booklooks at secondary-school pupils' conceptions oftechnology and the nature of their interactions withtechnological artefacts. The book takes aqualitative methodological approach to understandingand describing these experiences. Of key importanceis that the empirical data were collected from theperspective of the pupils themselves, an importantrequirement of the methodological framework adopted.There have been many studies around pupils andtechnology, but nearly all are based on a prioricategories constructed by 'experts', rather thanbeing constituted from the pupils' perspective. Assuch, this book contributes towards filling a gap inthe literature and should be useful to anyoneconcerned about the current levels of technologicalliteracy in society and who is looking for aframework that can help them to make an impact onimproving the levels of technological literacy ofyoung people.
