Synchronization is a challenging but critical taskin communications. Over the last two decades, extensive research work has been carried out todesign nondata-aided timing recovery and carriersynchronization schemes. Despite their importanceand spread use, most of the existing blindalgorithms are derived in an ad-hoc manner withoutexploiting optimally the entire availablestatistical information. And also, in most casestheir performance can only be evaluated by hardwareor computer simulations, the rigorous and completeperformance analysis has not been done. This book is to develop several novel signalprocessing frameworks that enable to analyze andimprove the performance of the existing timingrecovey and carrier synchronization algorithms. Asbyproducts of this analysis, unified methods fordesigning new computationally and statisticallyefficient blind feedforward synchronizers aredeveloped.
