The present edition lists and details 43,570 libraries from 196 countries, with contact information (including website) as well as statistical details of holdings, and references to special collections. Arrangement is by country; indexing is by library name. Included are large national, research, and university libraries as well as smaller special libraries such as ecclesiastical and company libraries. Inclusion was determined depending on the magnitude of book holdings (with regard to the type of library); but Third World countries' libraries have been included even if they had lesser holdings.
