This text provides an elementary introduction to algebraic geometry. The reader is introduced to the principal objects, methods, and goals of the subject quickly without having to invest in a weighty development of technical machinery. Much of the text is occupied by examples and exercises which enable the student to become quite familiar with the subject matter. Prerequisites have been kept to a minimum; a reader should be able to get by with some linear and multilinear algebra and a basic background in abstract algebra.
