This book introduces the reader to the application of decision making tools to crisis management. The topic is treated through a series of papers which are gathered into three groups, each one addressing a specific domain: 1. information and decision structures, 2. stability with respect to burden sharing problems, force ratios and deterrence, 3. assessment, negotiations and verifications procedures. The book is the first general attempt to decompose and analyse crisis management problems with the help of operations research, game theory, computer and systems science, and strategic modelling. Its purpose is to give the reader an impression of the state of the art in this field, and to open new avenues for future research.
