The present book begins by spelling out the significance of expert systems for the future of business. It goes on to explain, for the non-specialist, the essential facts and terminology of expert systems, so that the reader will have some equipment for talking intelligently to special- ists, vendors and software houses about possible implementations. It then offers some help in identifying suitable applications, and discusses different ways in which one can get started in using this new technology, and how the implementation can be monitored and costed. A number of case studies of applications chosen for diversity in size, type of application and method of ap- proach are also included.
