Den antiken semitischen Gottheiten Anat, Astarte, Qedeschet und Ascherah waren gerade in der jüngsten Forschungsgeschichte von großem Interesse. Diese Studie leistet nun einen Beitrag zur Erforschung der Ikonographie dieser Gottheiten im Zeitraum von 1500–1000 vor Christus. Dabei stellt Cornelius nicht nur die verschiedenen ikonographischen Darstellungen detailliert vor und erklärt sie in ihren Eigenheiten, sondern er versucht auch, die Beziehungen der Gottheiten untereinander zu klären und sie zu identifizieren.
