Works of art and buildings inherently imply movement. Not only is the action represented in an image or the dynamic unfolding of a motif of movement in architecture implied, but also the behavior of the viewer before a work of art.
The present volume devotes itself to various facets of movement in the fine arts, as well as to its emotional impact – in paintings and photographs, but it also crosses over to the genres of film and performance, which include a temporal dimension. In these interdisciplinary essays, dealing with diverse media and epochs, the phenomenon of movement is requestioned using current theoretical approaches.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Andreas Beyer is a full professor of art history of the early modern period at the University of Basel. From 2009 to 2013 he was director of the German Forum for Art History (Centre Allemand d’Histoire de L’Art) in Paris. Guillaume Cassegrain is an art historian and the author of several books, including Tintoret.
