The present book deals with preparation and characterization of solid supported Co(ClO4)2 and its applications in the synthesis of biologically active organic compounds under solvent free condition. Silica supported Co(ClO4)2 was prepared and found to be thermally stable over a long range of temperature. It was found to be an efficient, recyclable and heterogeneous catalyst for synthesis of both 5-unsubstituted 3, 4-dihydropyrimidinones and β-amino carbonyl compounds under solvent free condition. The simple procedure, high yield of desired products and solvent free reaction condition making it environment benign are important aspects of this protocol.
