It provides comprehensive and unbiased information, essential recommendations and guidelines for design, installation, testing and maintenance of accessories to professionals through the exceptional expertise of the authors.

This publication is divided in two Volumes covering land and submarine applications, HVAC and HVDC systems, transitions from lapped cable systems to extruded cable systems, from OHL to UG cables and from cables to substations. It equips the reader with recommendations for testing, installation, maintenance, remaining life management. This Volume is dedicated to Components while Volume 2 deals with Land and Submarine AC/DC Applications.

The book compiles the results of the work achieved by several Working Groups and Task Forces of CIGRE Study Committee 21/B1, and Joint Working Groups and Joint Task Forces with other Study Committees. Many experts from Study Committees 21/B1 (Insulated Cables), 15/D1 (Materials and Emerging Test Techniques), 33/B3 (Substations), C3 (System Environmental Performance) and C4 (System Technical Performance) have participated in this work in the last 30 years in order to offer comprehensive, continuous and consistent outputs.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

The Study Committee B1 of CIGRE (Insulated Cables) covers underground and submarine, AC and DC, Insulated Cable Systems. SC B1 (formerly SC 21) was established in 1927 and celebrated its 80th anniversary during the 2007 Study Committee meeting in Osaka (Japan).

Pierre Argaut was graduated as electrical engineerfrom the “Institut d’Electrotechnique de Grenoble” in1971. He joined Delle-Alsthom (HV Switchgear Manufacturer)in November 1971 and took several positionsbefore heading the R&D Department on GIS. Afterbeing operation manager of South European Pipeline,he joined SILEC in 1988 and retired at the end of 2010.His last position with SILEC was senior vice president.In Study Committee B1 (Insulated Cables), Pierrehas held position of working group member(21.09;21.06;21.07;21.17), French SC member, workinggroup convener (B1.19), special reporter (2010),advisory group convener (Tutorial Advisory Group till2010), and chairman of SC B1 from August 2010 toAugust 2016. He received the Technical CommitteeAward in 2000, the Distinguished Member Award in2002, and the title of Honorary Member of CIGRE in2016.
