An engaging writing style with a treasure trove of anecdotes and fascinating facts to keep the reader interested. Smart. Clearly explaining recent cognitive science breakthroughs. In a world where the nerds have the advantage, the evidence says Good Thinking leads to substantial rewards. Practical. Explaining how people think in different contexts and offering practical solutions and tools you can use every day. A scientifically-robust handbook for anyone who wants to improve the effectiveness of their thinking. Good Thinking, and Bad is a mental tool box to enable and empower the reader's thinking. It is written from the position that everyone can be smarter and make better decisions with a little help. The positive message that runs throughout the book is that meta-cognition discoveries are not negative `thinking fallacies'. Instead, they are Thinking Paradigms which have evolved over millennia. They have at least as many valuable advantages as they do subtle disadvantages. It features new thinking in the science of meta-cognition (thinking about thinking) which provides insights to enable Good Thinking. It also teaches us how to spot, and to stop, Bad Thinking. The book is built around a practical decision-making model which the author has developed. This is based on extensive research and his experience as a senior management consultant. The structure of the book exploits proven education and training techniques to make these interesting ideas digestible and easy to retain.

Born in Ireland in 1961, Kieran originally worked as an architect in Dublin and London. Kieran has since built a successful career as a senior management consultant specialising in strategic change. He worked at a senior level in IBM and has been a partner in KPMG Consulting. He is also a serial entrepreneur; setting up a variety of business ranging from restaurants to health care, via property and mobile telephony. Some of these were even successful! He has spent many years studying the latest developments in psychology with a focus on cognition and behavioural economics. This research, his correspondence with some leading thinkers in this field, as well as his new thinking in the important areas of Prospect Theory and Empathy are synthesised into this, his first book. Kieran has a plan to give free copies of this book to as many school libraries as possible and promotes the idea that `thinking about thinking' will eventually become a part of every school's curriculum. Kieran lives in London, a city that he loves for its cosmopolitan energy.
