This collection of 18 short stories, 6 works of nonfiction and one parody is the product of a complex blending of experience, reason and emotion compounded in the crucible of the imagination. Encompassing diverse temporal and cultural settings and ranging from the humorous to the deeply disturbing, the compositions explore an array of psychological, social, political, ethical and religious issues. Some of the short stories are based on the author's experiences practicing medicine in a rural area of Appalachia and some are based on his experiences growing up in the 1950s in the South. Two of the short stories are Harry Potter fan fiction pieces. The works of non-fiction are short memoirs or essays. The parody won the 1998 Faux Faulkner Award. While designed to appeal to a wide audience, the collection may be of particular interest to health professionals and students and trainees preparing for such a career. Robin Blake is a son, a brother, a husband, a father and a grandfather. He is a retired family physician and Emeritus Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri - Columbia. He lives in Columbia, MO with his wife Cokie and their cat tiger Stripe.
