This book serves as a guide to enable the student of Science to write model essays on topics in all branches of pure science. The form that the essays take in this teach-yourself book is planned to teach the average student of science the formats for writing essays of different kinds, as determined by the aspect of a topic in science, on which the essay is meant to elaborate. The format adopted entails dividing the body of the essay into the following aspects: a. Introduction - This states briefly the aim and the plan for the essay by providing an outline of the sub-topics that make up body of the essay. b. Sub-topic 1 - The nature of an object, phenomenon, or process dealt with in the essay or, the subject that is dealt with is described. c. Sub-topic 2 - The importance of the object, phenomenon, or process being dealt with. The role(s) played by the subject dealt with, and the benefit(s) derived therefrom are mentioned in this section of the essay. d. Sub-topic 3 - The factors that influence the object, phenomenon, or process that is the subject matter of the essay. The conditions that affect the subject and the roles it plays are discussed as follows: i. The conditions that favor the subject are mentioned. ii. The conditions that hinder the roles of the subject are stated. iii. How the limitations to the roles played by the subject may be minimized, prevented, or eliminated are suggested. e. Sub-topic 4 – A summary of the essay comprising the main idea of each aspect of the essay is outlined or stated very briefly. f. Sub-topic 5 – A conclusion is drawn as a type of closing remark made briefly about the role(s), and benefit(s) that are derived from the subject dealt with in the essay. Each sub-topic therefore answers a specific question about an aspect of the body of the essay. Therefore, to each sub-topic is appended a relevant sub-test item, to show the type of question that the particular sub-topic answers as part of the broad test item that the essay as a whole answers.
