CHAPTER 1

Creating Awareness

1. Thought Equals Creation

Different people in many ways and at many times have said we are what we think. But what does that mean?

Many more of us are just starting to realize how much truth that phrase holds because only now with increased awareness can we notice the manifestation of our thoughts more quickly than ever. We used to have to wait days or even months until something we thought about would actually manifest, but now, that may take only hours or minutes.

We get proof much sooner, and so it is easier for us to notice the effects of our thoughts since we can remember our most recent thoughts or actions. We can witness the power of our minds and how our thoughts create change.

Globally, it will take longer to change things because all our lives are interwoven and not everybody is on the same page. But with a concerted effort, whatever enough people want and think about will eventually manifest. We can choose to live balanced and harmonious lives by choosing our thoughts and being aware of them continuously. But it all depends on our interest and trust in the matter.

2. Think of a Positive Life

• Would you prefer a positive, happy, fulfilling life or a sad, miserable one?

• Would you rather live in peace or in turmoil?

• Would you prefer a beautiful view from your home or an unsightly one?

• Would you prefer to have time to do things that make you feel full, rich, and alive or only to have time to do what others tell you?

• Would you rather be with kind people who care about you or with people who abuse you and trigger your feelings of low self-esteem?

• Would you prefer to be in an understanding and compassionate relationship or one in which you argue and bicker all the time?

• Would you rather feel self-confident or have no confidence?

• Would you rather have respect and voluntary cooperation from your employees or their fear and eventually defiance?

• Would you prefer to enjoy love and respect from your children or sadness and fear?

When we line things up in this way, I think it is safe to say that we all would rather choose the options that invoke positive rather than negative feelings in us. So why do so many of us live with the negative options?

Many may say, "These are just the cards I have been dealt," or "I've landed involuntarily in this situation," or "This is where life (or circumstance) has taken me so far."

Yes, what happened in the past put you where you are now, but every moment of your life is influenced by every choice you make. From where you are now, you can make a conscious choice to start changing things to the way you like.

We human beings are blessed with free will, consciousness, and memories so we can learn from our experiences and learn to steer our thoughts and actions and thus our lives in positive directions.

Our lives may not change overnight (though that can happen); it all depends on our continuous awareness of the thoughts we focus on. Once we start making even small changes, once we start doing things just a little differently, it is as if an unseen force starts to make new and different things happen around us. Call it the law of attraction or the universe responding to what we are sending out, or call it something else or nothing at all. The fact is that things will start to unfold and change around us to challenge us, make us rethink old habits, and help us understand ourselves and others better.

New doors will open, situations will suddenly present themselves, and we will suddenly have new choices to make and have to decide which road we want to take next.

Something new will happen — but we will have to take the first step. As we become more aware of the contents of our lives, we will notice them.

That first step depends on your situation and what you want to change — but if you do something consciously, new opportunities and choices will present themselves. Choose where you want to go and you will see that new doors open and new choices appear.

Think about what you want to do next, and feel what feels right to do next. Allow your heart and mind to agree on what your next steps should be. Then follows the responsibility of choice, which I will touch on later.

Depending on your situation and what you would like to change, your next step could for example be to

• make that call to someone who has been on your mind for a long time,

• finish that book you started reading,

• offer your help to someone who needs it,

• finish the work you have been postponing,

• apply for that job you think sounds great,

• declutter your home or room,

• clear up a misunderstanding between you and a friend, and

• accomplish other things that keep moving to the front of your mind.

Follow your inner voice, that quiet voice in your mind that tells you what you need to do.

As long as you constantly try to make decent, positive, and constructive choices according to your heart and keep faith in the positive, your life will take a turn for the better.

You will still come across challenges — they are as much a part of life as are the blissful moments — but how you react to the challenges in your life will make all the difference.

Things that can make us sad, angry, frustrated, or heartbroken will still...
