Inhaltsangabe

Inferno is the first part of Dante’s epic trilogy, The Divine Comedy; and was conceived as both a glorification of God and a protest against the injustice and corruption which Dante believed had come to thwart the divine plan. Perhaps most famously, the framework within which this complaint was voiced is by means of Dante’s imagined descent through the nine circles of Hell in company with the ghost of the Roman poet, Virgil. Inferno was created as a work of theology, philosophy and politics whilst also providing an autobiography – and its success in each of these spheres has allowed Dante’s work to achieve a popularity which has endured for eight centuries. Each page contains a translation from the original Latin text. Alongside, there is plenty of room in the wide outer margins for readers to add their own commentary, further thoughts, class or lecture notes, or perhaps a glossary to define unfamiliar words. This volume contains the complete and unabridged text together with a personal study notebook - which means it offers excellent value for money.
