Ivan Turgenev (1818 - 1883) was a Russian novelist, short story writer, and playwright. Turgenev was born to wealthy, noble Russian parents and grew up surrounded by by foreign governesses; thus he became fluent in French, German and English languages.
His first major publication, a short story collection entitled A Sportsman’s Sketches is regarded as one of the major works of 19th-century fiction.
