Don Catherall is a clinical psychologist whose career focused on the treatment of people exposed to trauma. In addition to clinical work, he writes and teaches about the treatment of trauma at Northwestern University. This book, however, is his personal story. He served as a Marine infantryman in Vietnam, and his father served in the South Pacific in World War II. Their family life was shaped by the shadow of war.
