Ian awakes without memory. His blue uniform and violet pistol strapped to his belt give him no indication of who he is; they only raise more questions. From under the rubble in which he’s trapped, Ian emerges into a desolate world, plagued by war. Few buildings still stand in the city around him, with few clues as to what has happened. Soon enough, Ian encounters human survivors as well as visitors from another world. He learns that a peaceful relationship between the humans and visitors quickly turned to violence and caused the destruction of Earth. However, aliens were not the sole cause of the collapse; there was also an army of androids that no longer wished to be enslaved by their creators. Ian meets Shyla, a refugee, who, like most other humans, has hidden herself from the world since the attacks, as well as a lost boy named Noah, whose father fought on the front lines against both the aliens and the robots, who he has not heard from since. When they receive word of a human resistance forming at NASA in Houston, something stirs inside of Ian—he believes that the answers to his former life will be found there. As he, Shyla, and Noah journey to NASA, Ian wonders if he even desires to be part of humankind anymore. Shyla keeps his faith strong and Noah makes Ian strive forward, to create a better world for the boy than the one into which he was born. But what his companions will do most for Ian is complete his self-discovery, to understand what he truly is.
