INTRODUCTION

So you think you want to write for young people?

Why?

→To make some fast bucks?

→To become famous?

→To see your ideas turned into movies?

If you answered yes to any of the above, I guess my best advice is to keep your day job.

Let me just tell you that I wrote for twenty years before anyone noticed. And it took twenty-three years for people to want to make a movie about my Goosebumps series.

If your answer to the question is: I have this urge to write that I can’t explain. Or: I’ve always loved to write, and I would really like to entertain young people. Or: I don’t know . . . 

Then you’ve probably come to the right place.

I’ve written more than 350 books, and I can’t really tell you why. I always say it’s greed and stupidity. But that’s just me trying to be funny. What I do know is that the hours I spend writing are the best part of my day.
