Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella first conceived as a play and finally published as a novel in England in 1938. It was published in the U.S. only after the success of her novel The Fountainhead. In the future, mankind has entered a new Dark Age where everything is planned and individuality eliminated. A young man known as Equality 7-2521 carries out secret scientific research and has to flee into the wilderness when discovered.
