While living in Hawaii, Tamara Pavich discovered antique hooked rugs in decorating magazines, and upon moving home to Iowa in 2008, she immediately made it her goal to learn how to hook. Her first twenty rugs were strictly wide cut. It was, as she says, love at first loop. She took every opportunity to learn from teachers like Donna Hrkman, Pris Buttler, Anita White, and Cathy Stephan. With a doctorate in English, it was a matter of time before she began writing about rug hooking. In her frequent contributions to Rug Hooking magazine, she encourages rug hookers to take on a challenge a monochromatic rug, a master painting, an abstract design, a sepia photo adaptation, the Impressionist style. Tamara s second book, already in the writing, will feature several artists and illuminate the idea of self-exploration through rug hooking. Tamara writes, designs, and hooks from her home in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
