The English Way, edited by one of the most important Christian humanists and publishers of the twentieth century, Maisie Ward, looks at the lives, ideas, and deaths of the great Roman Catholic Anglo-Saxons. Most of these men and women were saints at the time of its publication, while some (John Fisher and Thomas More) were recognized as such shortly afterwards. Maisie Ward (1889–1975) was a writer, publisher, and speaker, and is widely recognized as one of the most important Christian intellectuals of the twentieth century. With her husband, Frank Sheed, she founded the publishing house of Sheed and Ward, which revived the Catholic literary movement and supported and promoted the intellectual, literary, and artistic treasures of the Catholic Church.
