A dog, apparently eaten by whales, and the disappearance of a couple, raises suspicions that a certain orca pack, and one particularly sharp and aggressive female, the queen, may be responsible. A geologist and his wife, both interested in orcas, along with a marine biologist from southern California, venture to Alaska to solve the mystery of the culprit whales and their unusual behavior. Accompany this pack of killer whales, see through the eyes of the queen, as the pack hunts and kills with purpose. When some kids attempt to communicate with the orcas, they fail and have near-fatal results. A decision is made by the three investigators to use mini-pigs as an experiment to determine if the orcas will kill and eat land animals, an unheard of prey for this species, but it’s a step toward killing and eating humans.

Mr. Bailey (“RV”) was born and raised in a small coal mining town in southern Wyoming where wildlife and insects were a constant source of interest and study. After attending the University of Wyoming and majoring in geology he was involved in various business activities, most of which were focused on locating economic deposits of gold, oil and gas, copper, uranium and coal. He was one of the first to recognize the importance of “roll front” uranium deposits in Wyoming and elsewhere. He co-authored a 540 page textbook on uranium exploration and has written numerous articles on that subject. Important gold discoveries were made in the course of his exploration in Alaska. When carrying out exploration for both placer and lode gold deposits he met, and joined with, a marine biologist who was studying killer whales in Prince William Sound, southern Alaska. In this study he and the biologist would be out in Prince William Sound for days at a time in a fishing boat discretely observing killer whale packs, often 24-7. RV also enjoyed sport fishing for salmon and halibut in southern Alaska, the Seward Peninsula and Siberia. He participated as an observer aboard a commercial salmon fishing boat operating from Cordova on the eastern edge of Prince William Sound. RV currently spends summers in Wyoming and winters at Port of the Islands, Florida where he observes wildlife including manatees, fish, birds and alligators.
