Over sixty presentations from the38th annual Charleston Library Conference (held November 5–9, 2018) areincluded in this annual proceedings volume. Major themes of the meetingincluded open educational resources, analysis and assessment of collections andlibrary users, demand-driven acquisition, the future of print collections, andopen access publishing. While the Charleston meeting remains a core one foracquisitions librarians in dialog with publishers and vendors, the breadth ofcoverage of this volume reflects the fact that this conference continues to beone of the major venues for leaders in the publishing and library communitiesto shape strategy and prepare for the future. Beth R. Bernhardt is the assistant dean for CollectionManagement and Scholarly Communications at the Jackson Library, University ofNorth Carolina at Greensboro.
Leah H. Hinds was appointed executive director of theCharleston Conference in 2017 and has served in various roles with theCharleston Information Group, LLC, since 2004. Prior to working for theconference, she was the assistant director of Graduate Admissions for theCollege of Charleston for four years.
Lars Meyer is the director of Access and Resource Services atEmory University Libraries with responsibilities for access services, technicalservices, preservation, and digitization.
Katina P. Strauch is founder and convener of theCharleston Conference, and editor of Against the Grain, thejournal linking publishers, vendors, and librarians, which is issued six timesa year. She recently retired as the assistant dean of Technical Services andCollection Development at the Addlestone Library, College of Charleston.
