James D. Bratt is a senior scholar in American religious and cultural history, specializing in the colonial and early-national periods. His wide range of publications shows his particular interest in the interactions among religion, politics, and social reform. He is best known for his work on the eminent Dutch religious and political leader Abraham Kuyper: Abraham Kuyper: Modern Calvinist, Christian Democrat (2013) and Abraham Kuyper: A Centennial Reader (1998). He has taught at Calvin College and the University of Pittsburgh and has earned numerous grants and awards, including two Fulbright Research grants for study abroad. His Ph.D. is from Yale University (1978).
