While community colleges give financially disadvantaged students a chance to open the door to education, simply walking through that door is not enough. Once there, many students feel completely alone on their journey. In Community College Success, Isa Adney shares secrets for connecting with others that helped her win a $110,000 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship. This is the first book to combine a youthful and accessible author with networking strategies specifically targeted to first generation and community college students. Community College Success gives historically under-represented students the strategic and motivational tools they need to be their own advocates and achieve their education and their dreams.

Though she landed in community college unexpectedly due to financial hardships, Isa Adney made connections with peers, professors, and professionals that defined her success. During two years of community college she became president of Phi Theta Kappa Pi Lambda and won the $110,000 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship, allowing her to transfer to a university where she won more awards and became a commencement speaker. Currently, Isa is pursuing an M.Ed in Training and Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and works as a Student Life Coordinator at Seminole State College, where she plans campus-wide educational and entertainment events, mentor students, plans and implements student leadership retreats, attends community college conferences, and advises campus clubs. Isa’s goal in life is to help others succeed in college, especially nontraditional and disadvantaged students.
