Dick Rathgeber has applied principles of entrepreneurship honed over fifty years in business to good causes. He can smell a deal from a county away, and his nose has led him to piles of money over the years. Rathgeber has figured out how to give to charity with the big guys, and he believes others can do the same. "The trick is to take whatever your talents are and use them for charity," he says. "In my case, I guess that's chasing a deal." The reason Rathgeber steps up is that he believes the whole structure of nonprofit organizations serving the poor, homeless, and children depends on citizen volunteerism and monetary support. Rathgeber takes it as a given that readers want to share with others, and he gives pointers on large and small steps to significance through giving.
