Inhaltsangabe

From an incomprehensible loss comes this story of inner torment, personal struggle, and strength of a father who has lost his little girl. A child's death strikes everyone as atrocious and most of us retreat from even thinking it possible. This extraordinary book lets the reader into the very personal secret internal processing with the twists and turns of emotion that can only come from a loving parent suffering from this type of loss. Although enormously sorrowful, this book creates hope and displays recovery through a true cherishing of joyful memories and honoring of life.

Aus dem Klappentext

The most powerful thing a memoir like this does for us is to teach us how to help. We can feel so helpless, so unable, so empty of anything worth giving. Roger, through your memories of Kendall, you let us know that we really might be able to offer some help and support even though we feel so powerless. Chapter 14 was the core of the book for me: What word does any human language have for one whose child has died? How about friend. That is so true and foundational and humbling. And it gives me my assignment: be a friend. I can handle that. I can give the gift of presence. It takes the intimidating fear of how to fix it away and tells me just to be there alongside. Accompany. Don t worry about what to call anyone, or what to say. It s an important reminder to us all. Sleepless Nights also reminded me to keep in mind those in my own life whom I could contact on a difficult anniversary. I have started a list and want to follow through, letting them know they aren t the only ones who are thinking about their child. I thank you for that, too, Roger. God bless you and all who love Kendall--
