Samuel Hazo is the author of books of poetry, fiction, essays, and plays. He is the Founder and Director of the International Poetry Forum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvnia, where he is also McAnulty Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English at Duquesne University. He has been a National Book Award finalist and was chosen the first State Poet of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvnia by Governor Robert Casey in 1993. He served in that capacity until 2003.
