This book is about three ways for human beings to govern their lives, only two of which promote cooperation among all individuals, peoples, cultures, and societies. The earliest of the three paradigms, the ancient Greek paradigm, saw reason as the key to comprehending the universe. Next came the early Christian paradigm, which saw reason as insufficient for comprehending the universe unless it was accompanied by faith and humility. Both of these paradigms ultimately unraveled through the ideas of individual freedom that culminated in the Enlightenment and our modern paradigm of self. Ironically, modern quantum physics and Heisenberg s uncertainty principle have shaken the modern belief in the infallibility of scientific empiricism and rationality, opening the door to the possibility that knowledge of truth and reality can be acquired through empirical evidence, intellectual reflection, and the realm of mystery. The history and implications of these paradigms are explored herein.

�ber die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Ron Dudum lives at the intersection of American confusion on race. His parents emigrated from Palestine to the United States, where Ron was born in 1956. Since then, there has never been a time when this country has not been at war with his ancestry. By religion, Ron is an Eastern Orthodox Christian in a nation that defines Christianity as Western and recognizes Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, and Taoism as Eastern. So, once again, Ron falls between the cracks. In the political arena, Ron has to some extent beaten the odds. In 2006, when he ran for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, he was defeated by only 53 votes out of more than 20,000 cast, although his neighbors are primarily Asian and Irish Americans. Thus, Ron's life has been an unending struggle to reconcile contradictions. This book brings together his thoughts on how rational people can completely interpret "reality" in mutually exclusive ways.
