Michael F. Conrad, Ed.D., born in 1940, is a laicized Roman Catholic Priest, retired, yet still working part-time as an instructional designer for the Florida Department of Education, division of Vocational Rehabilitation. They help the disabled find employment and independence in living. He was privileged to spend 16 years in the active ministry, as pastor, religious educator and US. Army Chaplain. He is a former Florida Supreme Court Family and County Mediator, and has taught on the faculties of Indiana University (Bloomington), University of South Florida, and Barry University. He was graduated from St. Meinrad College of Liberal Arts with a B.S. in Biology, St. Meinrad School of Theology (1966) and Loyola University (Chicago), graduating with a Masters in Religious Education (1972). In 1976, he was awarded a doctorate in Adult Education from the School of Education, Indiana University (Bloomington). Since 1991, he worked in Florida State government for the next 16 years until his retirement in 2006. In 2000, he began writing books on community and spiritual themes to help adult learners explore some of the nuances of their respective beliefs, specifically, how to participate with those of a different viewpoint and reach consensus. Dr. Conrad is a publisher, as well as an author, having written 38 books. His speciality is applied spirituality, providing adult learners with the ability to discuss themes with each other. Applied spirituality is the ability to focus on issues coming from the practical experience of living-out a particular set of beliefs by the learner. From 1999 through 2006, Dr. Conrad helped to facilitate 14 Waterfronts Florida programs for small, coastal communities wishing to bring the community together to find out what their future might look like. This is called community visioning.
