If ancient aliens did indeed visit Earth in prehistoric times they would have been regarded as 'gods' just as we would be considered god-like creatures if we were to go back in time with our modern aircraft. Our aeroplanes in their eyes would probably look like giant metal birds, spitting fire and making the earth shake. What power we would have. We couldn't possibly be human – we would have to be gods. Gods from the heavens. If this scenario was playing in a remote tribe in the highlands of New Guinea or the Amazon today, this may still be the reaction. Try to explain lasers and space suits, rovers and drones, let alone the spacecraft itself.

Theorists of ancient alien life believe that something like this did happen to our ancestors, and they passed down their observations the best way they knew how: stories and pictures.

Were the Gods Extra-terrestrials?

The Mayan Popol Vuh, also known as the Council Book, contains the myths and genealogy of rulers of the Quiche kingdom of Guatemala. Alien life existed in South America during the early 15th century.

'Men came from the stars, knowing everything, and they examined the four corners of the sky and the Earth's round surface.'

The Mayan Chilam Balaam texts of Mexico also state:

'Beings descended from the sky in flying vessels ... white men in flying rings, who can touch the sky.'

Could extra-terrestrials with superior knowledge of science and engineering have landed on Earth thousands of years ago or more, sharing their knowledge with early civilisations? Is this how the Mayans of Mexico, the Sumerians of Mesopotamia (now Southern Iraq) and the Egyptians, especially, got their advanced knowledge in astronomy, mathematics and science?

Ancient astronaut theorist and author of Chariots of the Gods, Erich von Däniken claimed that advanced knowledge, technologies and religions of our ancient civilisations were given to them by space travellers, who were considered gods by our early ancestors.

Ancient artworks throughout the world depict what appear to be astronauts, spaceships, winged creatures with machines that came from 'heaven', extra-terrestrials that looked like men or were hybrids, and complex technologies.

Why Did Aliens Come Here?

Have you ever wondered how techologically advanced some ancient civilisations were for their time? From the main advanced civilisations there is a resounding yes. Ancient Sumerian tablets describe an alien race known as the Anunnaki, who came to Earth to mine for gold. Egyptian hieroglyphs depict hybrid creatures that were part man, part animal. Was it a form of genetic engineering in which hybrids were created from humans and aliens? Mysterious crop circles, and landing tracks and unexplained pyramid landing pads are only some clues that there are continuous visits from alien life from these locations.

Strange evidence in many ancient cultures suggests that aliens came to Earth to explore, excavate raw materials such as gold, experiment on human beings, and simply to conquer. Creation stories also support the alien god theory.

The ancient Sumerian civilisation was flourishing about 4500 BCE and existed in what was once Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq). Their sophistication seemed to come out of nowhere. They were highly advanced technologically, capable of exceptional metallurgy, smelting, refining and alloying as well as petroleum fuel refining. How did this happen?

Sumeria was one of the first civilisations that recorded the creation of man in a sophisticated form by writing on clay tablets. In their belief system, God was an alien being and the human race was seeded by space travellers. These space travellers were described as gods and angels, fiery chariots and other inexplicable phenomena. They were known as the Anunnaki or 'those who from heaven to earth came'.

As a result of the intervention of the Anunnaki, humans developed and advanced as a race. In modern-day terms, the Anunnaki performed genetic engineering to create the human race.

That gives us one explanation why their civilisation was so far advanced – that is, alien races wanted to use our DNA in some way and this was initally the sole purpose of their visitation.

Early versions of hybrid races may not have been as succesful as initially hoped for. Imagine human hybrids – the result of supernatural beings (Anunnaki), who interbred with human women who roamed the Earth before the Great Flood in The Bible (Noah's flood). In The Bible these hybrids are known as the Nephilim. Some of the mutations or offspring resulted in giants such as Goliath and Cyclops in the Greek myths – giants who walked the Earth and helped humans create great monuments with their enormous strength. Think impossibly created Egyptian pyramids, the amazing Sphinx, the majestic Easter Island statues and other huge structures that defy logic as to how they were created given the basic tools and knowledge of the time.

Were humans given a helping hand in achieving great feats that advanced our civilisation?

The Garden of Eden: A lab for creating humans

Let's revisit Sumeria and The Bible. Could genetic experimentation have taken place in the Garden of Eden (in Sumerian, Eden means 'flat terrain'), also known as 'the garden of the gods'? Is this the place where Adam and Eve were the first working models that were used to procreate the rest of humanity? Was this place real?

Translations tell us that it was a walled garden with a perfect environment. In other words, it may have been a biosphere, as we know it today. Oddly enough, the Eden Project in Cornwall contains the world's largest geodesic domes that have two distinct biospheres – the humid tropical biome and the warm temperate biome, featuring plant species from all over the world.

In The Bible, four specific rivers surrounding the Garden of Eden are mentioned, and researchers believe that the location of the Garden of Eden is the Persian Gulf. Keep in mind that when the ice caps melted, the Indian Ocean flooded the land and flooded the Gulf. It seems to match ancient stories that the Garden of Eden was indeed destroyed in the Great Flood.

Some speculate that the tree of knowledge was really the DNA sequencing in our bodies, engineered by aliens, and if we had the knowledge of how to do this ourselves, we too would be 'like the gods'. Apparently there was...
